The York Art Society was founded in 1921 by The Dean of York, later the Dean of Westminster, The Very Rev. William Foxley Norris.
The Society's aim is to encourage the practice and understanding of the visual arts in York and its neighbourhood. It currently has around 150 members. The Society members meet regularly, usually for practical demonstrations or workshops and there is a thriving self-help group.
The Society holds exhibitions of members`paintings twice a year and also displays work on the York art Society Blog, on FaceBook, or on the gallery pages of this site. In addition to these online sources, a printed newsletter of news, views and event dates is produced on a quarterly schedule.
Current membership is 37.00 GBP per year, for which members receive free admission to our monthly demonstrations and the right to submit three works for exhibition selection. Workshops do have a nominal charge, based upon the tutors' expenses and the hire of facilities.
You can contact York Art Society directly by emailing us at yorkartsociety@yahoo.co.uk
We can also be contacted through our blog or other social media [see the side bar for our other online outlets]. We're always happy to receive news and event announcements from members and other local art groups and, as a rule of thumb, will consider publishing anything that ticks both the boxes "Art" and "Yorkshire".
